I was looking for whisky, and women, and beer
The high neon sign said I’d find them all here
There were bars on the windows and the keep wore a gun
The whisky was blended and the women undone

But I drank that poison, chased down with a beer
And the more that I drank, the more things gotten clear
I was looking for something that couldn’t be found
And the girls were all done-up when the time came around

When I left you I thought all my troubles were gone
You were crying as I turned and told you so long
But I wasn’t so smart when I left you behind
I was headed for trouble of a terrible kind

The first day was easy, I was free as a bird
No more moaning and bitching no there wasn’t a word
but it didn’t take long ‘for I started to miss
hearing I aint done that and I done too much of this

The distance grew longer my resolve withered ‘til
Didn’t know what was stronger, my ego or will
‘cause I missed you so bad that I cried every night
But I just kept on walking with no end in sight

And the space that was aching where you used to be
It was gaping and sore and as bad as can be
But my pride wouldn’t let me crawl back to your side
So I just kept on walkin’ and dying inside
